U.I.G.A. Bylaws

Since 1990

Article I — Membership

  1. Membership in this U.I.G.A. shall be open to males 18 years of age or older.
  2. Members of this Association shall always exhibit correct golf etiquette whenever or wherever they play the game of golf. Unsportsmanlike conduct (including but not limited to: cheating, violence, or other bad behaviors) will not be tolerated and your membership will be revoked and you will no longer be allowed to participate in any U.I.G.A. event.
  3. All members shall acquaint themselves with the rules of golf and play must be consistent with those rules.
  4. A member is considered in good standing when all dues and other monetary obligations are paid in full and when he is acting in conformity with the Bylaws of the U.I.G.A.

Article II — Fees and Dues

New Members

  1. The initiation fee for new members shall be $30 payable when the application is submitted to the Utah Islanders Golf Association. This fee shall be returned if the application is rejected by the Membership Committee.
  2. All new members must read the U.I.G.A Constitution and Bylaws as posted on U.I.G.A website and o (wordsmith)

Renew membership

  1. The annual U.I.G.A membership fee to renew is $30. Payable by April  2nd of each calendar year. There will be no late entries into the club if dues have not been paid by deadline.
  2. Dues must be paid prior to participation in any U.I.G.A Tournament otherwise it will result in disqualification of the individual without a refund of the Tournament fee.
  3. The fiscal year for U.I.G.A runs from March 1 – Last Friday of October after the Rabbit/Friday night league play has been completed at Fore Lakes.

Article III — Officers/Committee

Election of U.I.G.A Officers

  1. The officers of the UIGA shall be President and 7 additional members and their assistants (Vice President, Secretary,  Treasurer, Tournament Director, Handicap Manager, Sergeant of Arms, Web Master.)
  2. President and his committee will choose their assistant from the U.I.G.A membership.
  3. After serving a 3 year term, the new President for the U.I.G.A is voted in by the club members. The new President will be selected after the club championship at the Annual Banquet.
  4. After President has been elected he will choose the members of the committee.
    • Committee member selection will be made from active, dedicated  supporting members of the U.I.G.A (Active supporting member is defined as at least 50% participation in club events throughout the calendar year.)

Article IV — Duties of Officers

  1. The President, when in attendance, shall preside at all meetings of the U.I.G.A. He shall enforce the requirements of the Bylaws. 
  2. The Vice President will preside in the absence of the President. He with the U.I.G.A. Committee will handle all publicity of the U.I.G.A.
  3. The Secretary shall have the custody of the U.I.G.A. Bylaws and all other records and documents of the U.I.G.A. He shall record the minutes of all general meetings and when requested shall read the minutes of any previous meetings. He shall have charge of all U.I.G.A. communication and email addresses. The Secretary shall collect dues, contributions, gifts and any other monies under the direction of the U.I.G.A. and verify with Treasurer and President to ensure accuracy of funds and obtain approval. The Secretary shall maintain an up to date list of members of the U.I.G.A that includes their addresses and phone numbers.
  4. The President and Treasurer shall have access to the U.I.G.A. bank and Venmo account and keep all monetary accounts of the U.I.G.A. Committee. The Treasurer shall sign all checks drawn of the funds of the U.I.G.A. and shall report in writing the state of the finances when requested by the U.I.G.A. Committee.  Any funds withdrawn from the U.I.G.A. bank account must be approved by the President and Treasurer. Periodically during the year, he shall post on the U.I.G.A. website a financial summary of the U.I.G.A. At the last meeting of the year he shall present a bank statement showing all receipts, expenditures, and ending cash balances for the year. 
  5. The Tournament Director shall be responsible for drafting a complete schedule of tournaments for the season. The draft is to include formats and associated fees. The draft shall be submitted to the U.I.G.A Committee prior to the beginning of the season. U.I.G.A members must have their club dues paid in full to play in any events. He shall see that each tournament is played in an equitable and satisfactory manner. He shall also verify that each entrant in the Club Championship shall have played in at least three (3) tournaments of which two (2) must have been a tournament in which handicaps are used. The Tournament Director shall see that the rules of golf are strictly followed by the members of the U.I.G.A. at all times. He shall answer all questions from the members pertaining to any interpretation of the rules.
  6. The Handicap Manager shall see that all members have established handicaps as established by the World Handicap System. He shall assure that all handicaps are current prior to each tournament. New member handicap calculations shall be provided by a fair method as approved by the U.I.G.A. Tournament Director and Handicap Manager.

Article V — Rules of Order

The order of business at all general meetings shall be:

  • Call to order
  • Minutes of previous meetings
  • Association Communications
  • Reports of all Officers pertaining to their duties
  • Unfinished Business
  • New Business
  • Adjourn

Article VI — Amendments

These bylaws may be amended by two thirds (5/8) vote of the U.I.G.A. Committee when such actions are requested. If a member of the committee is absent, his vote may be counted by absentee ballot. Upon adoption of any amendment a copy of the change shall be given to each U.I.G.A committee member, and then the announcement will be added to the U.I.G.A website.

AMENDMENTS VOTED ON AND APPROVED:

  1. The maximum handicap allowed will be 20
  2. There will be a deadline (April 2 of each calendar year) to become a member of the U.I.G.A

      1. moving from new area, new state etc.) ****Can only be a member of UIGA ALL U.I.G.A membership holder priority, dedication and support.
  3. Forfeit membership fee if found guilty of misconduct, violent behavior will not tolerated in the U.I.G.A.
    1. If playing in multiple clubs and participation is more than participation in UIGA then appropriate action(including or up termination/revoke from U.I.G.A) will be taken to avoid conflicts and confrontations between clubs and club members.

      3. — Dedicated service to the club such as U.I.G.A. Member, donations, helping with scoreboard, skins calculations etc.
  4. Approved golf attire must be worn during all U.I.G.A. Club Tournaments
  5. Obey & follow ALL local course rules including dress requirements/standards
  6. Each member is solely responsible for any damages caused to the golf course, homes, business, outbuildings etc. and/or equipment
